About us
We support Latin American and other Black and Minoritised women and children fleeing from different forms of gender-based violence, mainly Domestic Violence.
Women with minoritised backgrounds, such as Latin Americans, endure additional challenges when trying to access support due to different barriers such as lack of English skills, the complexity of a system they often don't understand, the lack of financial resources to look after themselves and their families, the fear of their immigration status being used against them, amongst many more.
We exist to support all those resilient women who need a space to heal and recover from the years of abuse and trauma. At LAWA, we run the only refuges by and for the Latin American community in London, and we manage an Advice Centre and counselling therapy, alongside community based services for the women from the community to gather and create a safe space.
Every year, across all our services, we support approximately 1,500 women and children.
